Most assets in Malaysia get frozen until the court issues probate, which can take months or years. But EPF and life insurance are different—your loved ones can receive the money in just 2–3 weeks. The key? Make a nomination. Without it, your family may face delays, disputes, or debt issues.

EPF & Life Insurance: Why Nomination Matters More Than a Will

From previous explanation , when someone passed away , even you have write a will or without a will . The deceased assets will be frozen until High court will provide you the grant of probate . 

If you have will , the fastest time to grant probate which might takes 3-6 months but how about no will ? 

Its might take years to get Letter of adminsitation ( LA) , the LA and GP is the same documents to unfroze assets , just that the gelaran is different to represent person writing a will or no . But in Malaysia , there is 2 assets that no need to go through probate process which are EPF and life insurance because both have Act will supersede will . But provided to do nomination . Its was so important to nominate your EPF and Life insurance policy. Because both have Act , EPF Act and Insurance Financial Service Act . Therefore it is so important to do nomination for both , so beneficiary or family will get the money within 2- 3 weeks , instant and net money .

And in life policy if nomination is fall under Trust policy , the family don’t need to settle debts but if for non trust they might need if got disputes. How to different the life insurance policy under Trust or non Trust will depends on Life assured marital status .Therefore this is the beauty of getting life insurance policy.
